Safe Guarding Policy

Start Right Apprenticeships is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable young adults. We believe that everyone has the right to be safe from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation and to be treated with dignity and respect.

Our services are delivered online to support young people aged 15–35 in accessing apprenticeship opportunities, careers guidance and employability support. We recognise our legal and moral duty to protect young people, particularly those under 18 and those who may be vulnerable. 

Safeguarding is a priority across all aspects of our work. 

Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to:
 • The business owner
 • Any associates, contractors or volunteers
 • All services delivered by Start Right Apprenticeships, including:
 • One-to-one online mentoring and guidance
 • Group workshops or webinars
 • Email, messaging platforms and digital communication
 • Any online learning or careers platforms used

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

As a limited company / small business, the owner of Start Right Apprenticeships acts as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

The DSL is responsible for:
 • Implementing this safeguarding policy
 • Managing and responding to safeguarding concerns
 • Liaising with schools, colleges and external agencies
 • Making referrals where necessary
 • Maintaining secure safeguarding records

Safer Online Working Practice

To protect young people and maintain professional boundaries, Start Right Apprenticeships will ensure that:
 • All communication takes place via approved business platforms only (e.g. business email, secure video platforms).
 • No personal social media contact will be accepted or initiated.
 • No private or informal messaging outside agreed professional channels.
 • Online sessions are professional, appropriate and transparent in nature.
 • One-to-one sessions with under-18s will only take place with school, college or parental knowledge and consent where required.
 • No session will be recorded without written consent.
 • No personal or unnecessary sensitive information will be requested or stored.

What personal data do we collect?

Start Right Apprenticeships collects and stores your personal and identifying data (such as given name, surname, residential address, email address, courses of interest, citizenship, gender, place and date of birth, telephone number) through this channel. This data will be deleted after 5 years of course completion.
